Consulting Consulting, workshops, and training Dialectical Behavior Therapy I have extensive training in DBT and enjoy facilitating workshops and trainings for mental health and health care providers. I will work with you to design a training that is right for your agency or group. Trainings can be 1 hour or 3-4 days depending on your needs. Topics include the biosocial model, cost and efficacy of DBT, dialectic dilemmas, chain analysis, coaching, the role of treatment providers, and reducing pejorative language and ineffective behaviors among treatment providers, and introduction or complete training of the DBT skills units, Core Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, and Distress Tolerance. I also enjoy working with agencies to develop or enhance a DBT program. We work together to understand the costs and benefits associated with a full DBT program and to implement the model in ways that will provide the greatest benefit to clients and agency. Borderline Personality Disorder What is BPD? Where does it come from? How can I maintain motivation and energy to work with clients who have BPD? I have lots of energy for helping treatment providers better understand BPD and learn how to work with clients effectively. A major focus is generally letting go of judgment, pejorative language, and anger toward the clients as well as understand, setting and maintaining personal boundaries. Working with Sex Offenders I facilitated sex offender groups for five years both in the community and in an inpatient facility. I offer training in working with this difficult population using cognitive behavior strategies, relapse prevention and mindfulness. A primary focus is on identifying positive and effective parts of the individual and working with these to help the client create change. I also focus on living with the outcomes, understanding our own limits, and maintaining motivation. Co-Occurring Disorders I have a particular interest in helping people understand how trauma and substance use are connected. The first seven years of my professional experience involved working extensively with individuals with this combination. Trainings include a look at the prevalence of trauma, link to developing a substance use disorder, treatment complications, and evidence based treatment protocols. Stress Reduction This series is appropriate for professionals, individuals, community groups, or businesses who want to reduce stress, increase healthy behaviors and habits, and notice positive aspects in life. Programs can be single 1 hour to 1 day workshops or a series of trainings over a few weeks. Most are rooted in and adapted from the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction programs as well as my personal practice in mindfulness and yoga.
