In my therapy sessions, I enjoy helping people:
My primary goal as a therapist is to teach you how to create change outside the therapy office. I offer brief individual therapy, generally 4-16 sessions during which I will work with you to identify goals and develop strategies for meeting them. I use a number of techniques for helping you create change. Sessions often involve teaching a specific skill, offering opportunities to practice the skill, and providing feedback. We can draw from cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, and mindfulness strategies. When appropriate and desired we can incorporate exercise into our work together. My office is located next to the Forum Nature Area and MKT trial. Some clients prefer to walk outdoors during therapy. Additionally, I have space in the office for those wishing to incorporate yoga, mindfulness, or relaxation into their work here. Group Therapy Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy is an 8 week group for people with symptoms of depression or anxiety. We teach mindfulness as a way of becoming more aware of thoughts and behaviors that fuel depression and anxiety. Additionally, cognitive strategies can help you replace ineffective thought patterns with more effective ways of thinking. The group involves teaching, mindfulness practice, gentle yoga, and discussion of skills. Living Better with Pain is offered in conjunction with a variety of treatment providers. Enhancing Effectiveness: is an 8 week group designed to help you improve your ability to cope with stressful situations and emotions and to improve interpersonal skills. Many of the strategies are adapted from Marsha Linehan’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy model. This group is appropriate for anyone seeking to enhance their ability to think, feel, and act effectively.
